Weilimdorf

The district of Weilimdorf is located in the northwest of Stuttgart. First mentioned in a document in 1243, the traces of settlement date back several thousand years. The fertile farmland all around provided the basis for the early farming and winegrowing village.

The Grüner Heiner is a mountain of rubble and fill in the north of Weilimdorf. Since the year 2000, Stuttgart's only wind turbine has been located on the Grüner Heiner.
The Löwen-Markt is the actual center of Weilimdorf, with shopping center, apartments, district town hall and library.

History

The transformation from a farming village to a commercial location took place in the 20th century. Weilimdorf has been connected to Feuerbach by streetcar since 1926.

In 1929 - after overwhelming approval by the residents - the voluntary merger with the then independent town of Feuerbach took place.

On May 1, 1933, Feuerbach-Weilimdorf was incorporated into the city of Stuttgart as part of the Gleichschaltung process. In the post-war period, the districts of Bergheim, Giebel and Hausen were created.

Today

Today, the district offers its residents a high residential and recreational value and, with one of the most modern industrial parks, is a location for international businesses and service companies.

A special cultural monument is today's Solitude Street. This dead-straight connection of a good 13 kilometers between Solitude Palace and Ludwigsburg Palace formed the basis for the land survey in Württemberg as early as 1820. Completed under Duke Carl Eugen in 1769, Solitudeallee was reserved for the ruler and was not to be used by the common people.

Since 2000, the first wind turbine in the state capital Stuttgart has been located on the Grüner Heiner.
