Mobility

Theo-mobil

The city of Stuttgart invited people to "Theo-mobil - the big mobility festival on Theodor-Heuss-Straße" on Sunday, September 17, 2023. With a colorful street festival, live music and many hands-on activities, a conscious approach to all forms of mobility was promoted.

Around 20,000 visitors experienced a cheerful, informative and creative festival of mobility on Theodor-Heuss-Strasse

When the city of Stuttgart organized the event entitled "Theo - car-free" in Stuttgart in September 2019 as part of European Mobility Week, Theodor-Heuss-Straße, which had six lanes in places, was closed to car traffic. This made it possible to temporarily use the otherwise busy road as an alternative.

As the event was a great success, this year, after a forced break due to the pandemic, a new edition was launched under the title "Theo-mobil - The great festival of mobility on Theodor-Heuss-Straße". Unlike before, the event was not called "Theo-car-free" but "Theo-mobile" in order to offer a platform for all climate-friendly forms of mobility. Theo-mobil" also took place as part of European Mobility Week - a campaign by the European Commission.

In glorious late summer weather, around 20,000 visitors experienced a cheerful, informative and creative festival on Theodor-Heuss-Straße, with which the state capital of Stuttgart promoted more sustainable mobility and climate-friendly behavior. A varied and exciting program for young and old was offered on the approximately one-kilometre-long event area between Rotebühlplatz and Kronenstraße.

An important goal of the city of Stuttgart was to promote sustainable and city-friendly mobility. Citizens were able to find out about sustainable mobility, get excited about it and experience it in practice. Various activities and small test tracks from over 40 exhibitors gave visitors a taste of sustainable modes of transportation and showed what is already possible today and what will be possible in the future. On the otherwise busy traffic axis, the city of Stuttgart organized a varied street festival for innovative and people-friendly mobility. There was a varied stage program and live music. Food and drink stands flanked the stage events and individual areas were designed as picnic areas and islands of tranquillity. This meant that the "Theo" could also be used for strolling, walking and relaxing. To support climate-friendly travel, local transport in Zone 1 was free of charge on this day.
