Queer life in Stuttgart

LSBTIQ+ working group

The LGBTIQ+ working group of the state capital Stuttgart is a central networking and working committee in which fields of action are defined, possible solutions developed and measures implemented.

The LGBTIQ+ working group meets regularly at City Hall and is made up of representatives from municipal administrative departments, interested organizations and interest groups from the local LGBTIQ+ communities. The LGBTIQ+ working group is headed by the  Equal Opportunities Department.

The aim of the working group is to make the special needs and disadvantages of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender, intersex and queer people (LGBTIQ+) visible and to work together with various specialist departments to develop solution strategies for greater participation and co-determination. Important projects and activities of the working group include

  • The establishment and institutionalization of specific  advisory services for LGBTIQ+ in Stuttgart.
  • The Rainbow Family Days in the town hall and the establishment of the "Meeting point, specialist and advice center for rainbow families in Stuttgart".
  • The inauguration of Karl Heinrich Ulrich Platz and the Karl Heinrich Ulrich Stele.
  • Anchoring the topic of sexual orientation and gender diversity in many different event formats, for example as a cooperation partner at the AG Gender specialist days on gender-sensitive work in Stuttgart.
  • The visibility of the topic of "sexual orientation and gender diversity" in political bodies through expert residents and advisory members, for example in the Youth Welfare Committee, the Advisory Board for Gender Equality and the International Committee.
