Equal opportunities

Men

Discrimination and unequal opportunities for men* are still barely anchored in society's consciousness. But they do exist. This makes it all the more important to draw attention to these problems and counteract them with suitable measures. This is the aim of the City of Stuttgart's equality policy.

More and more fathers want to share paid work and care work as partners and play a greater role in the family. Gender equality is a prerequisite for this. (symbolic image)

Gender equality-oriented men's policy

Social change, individual lifestyles and flexible work and relationship models are increasingly challenging the traditional role model of men. However, different understandings of roles can also lead to challenges, questions and doubts regarding one's own identity and position. The  Equal Opportunities Department of the City of Stuttgart is dedicated to the target group of men in their different life situations from the perspective of equality-oriented men's policy.

The department supports and promotes equal opportunities for all genders with a focus on characteristics of structural disadvantage. Men are also disadvantaged due to their age, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity, ideology, religion and ethnicity. They are also victims of domestic violence. The work of the equality-oriented men's policy of the state capital Stuttgart is to be constantly expanded and the focus on inequality of opportunity for men is to be sharpened.

Together with specialists from men's counseling and youth work, the Equal Opportunities Department networks on various specialist topics and reports its needs to the relevant administrative bodies and municipal committees. The department is currently working with experts in the following specialist working groups: the working group on boys' and men's health in the state capital of Stuttgart, the specialist working group on boys' work and the network meeting on men's counseling in Stuttgart.
