Music

Stuttgart is one of Germany's leading cities for music, with four first-class orchestras, the Stuttgart Opera House, top-class concert series and festivals, and an agile music scene. From classical music and opera to jazz and rock, pop and hip-hop - diversity and breadth define Stuttgart's musical life.

Musical Stuttgart: Sounds good!

Stuttgart's musical wealth includes not only renowned institutions and professional ensembles of international artists, but also a broadly diversified base of around 200 choirs, numerous singing and music associations, countless amateur musicians as well as semi-professional orchestras and music groups. The city supports Stuttgart's music scene, among other things, through  funding measures and well-networked cultural work. In this way, it contributes significantly to the development and preservation of musical diversity in Stuttgart.

Stylistic sound diversity

In terms of musical styles, everything the art form has to offer is represented. Institutions such as  Musik der Jahrhunderte (opens in a new tab) and the  Stuttgart University of Music (opens in a new tab) as well as artists make the city a metropolis of new music. The  Composition Prize of the state capital Stuttgart is the most important award for the creators of new music - it is awarded every year at a special concert of the  ECLAT Festival of New Music (opens in a new tab).

The Stuttgart jazz scene offers a broad stylistic spectrum from traditional jazz to modern and avant-garde. The Stuttgart jazz scene also receives important impulses from the students and graduates of the Stuttgart University of Music. The International Theaterhaus Jazz Days and the  jazzopen stuttgart (opens in a new tab) festival exude international flair.

Stuttgart is also known as the cradle of German hip-hop, with the Fantastischen Vier, Massive Tönen and Freundeskreis as co-founders. Institutions such as the  Pop-Büro Region Stuttgart (opens in a new tab) ensure that the next generation of popular music is not left out and that innovations are launched.
