On the road by bike

Sightseeing by bike? Cycle around the edge of the city? Or plan a family tour along the Neckar? The cycle map will help you, it is integrated into the  digital city map (opens in a new tab). Under "Traffic and mobility", for example, special routes such as main cycle paths or themed cycle tours can be displayed. The map also shows further information about cycling: bike rental stations, bicycle parking spaces and bicycle parking garages.

A printed version of the Stuttgart cycle map can be purchased from the  customer center of the city survey office.

The  cycle route planner (opens in a new tab)is a joint project of the city of Stuttgart and the VVS. Depending on your mood, you can choose whether the route should be sporty, fast or particularly beautiful. Intermediate stops, RegioRad stations or a combination with public transport are also possible. The routes can be entered into the navigation device as a GPS track. The application is also available as an  app (opens in a new tab)for iPhone and Android.

You can also cycle to school when you move up to Year 5. To ensure a safe journey to school on a two-wheeler,  cycling route maps with the best routes are drawn up for secondary schools in Stuttgart.

Don't feel like cycling the entire route? No problem, you can also take your bike with you on the Regiobahn and the Stadtbahn - except during rush hour. Apart from rush hour,  taking your bike on public transport is free of charge.

One exception is the rack railroad (Zacke), which runs between Marienplatz and Degerloch. Bikes and cargo bikes can be transported all day long in its front carriages, but only uphill.

With the bicycle garages around the main train station, at Paulinenbrücke and at the Haus des Sports in Bad Cannstatt, 200 covered and secure spaces for bicycles are available at central points in the city.

In order to also provide secure parking spaces in densely populated residential areas with few private parking options, there are additional bicycle garages with 20 spaces each in Hasenbergstrasse and Spittastrasse. More bicycle garages are to be installed in residential areas in the future.

The spaces can be booked online via the  "Bike and Park" (opens in a new tab) portal. They can be rented by the day, week, month or year. In the bike garages, the bikes are parked and connected on two levels in so-called double-decker parkers. The bike garages are not suitable for cargo bikes.

There are over 10,000 bicycle racks in Stuttgart. They can be found at almost all public transport stops, in front of public facilities and in squares. Some of the parking spaces are covered.

At the train stations in Möhringen, Vaihingen and Bad Cannstatt, staff at the bicycle service stations offer their services. Bicycles can be parked here safely and under cover. During parking hours Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., you can also have your bike cleaned and serviced. The  bike service stations (opens in a new tab) also offer rental bikes. Donated and refurbished bikes can be rented for three to five euros per day.
