Public transport

Bicycle transport in local traffic

Many routes in Stuttgart can be easily covered by bike and e-trekker. However, if the paths are too long or too steep, you can also use public transport with your bike.

Bicycles can be taken on public transport free of charge - but not at all times of the day.

Bicycles and electric scooters can travel free of charge on light rail vehicles, commuter trains and local trains. However, there are special regulations for commuter services.

The following regulations apply on S-Bahn and local trains:

  • Bicycles travel free of charge from Monday to Friday before 6 a.m. and after 9 a.m., as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
  • Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., a children's ticket for the corresponding zones must be purchased for the bicycle.

The following applies to taking bicycles on light rail vehicles:

  • Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. it is not possible to take bicycles on the light rail.
  • Outside these times and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, bicycles can be carried free of charge.
  • Bicycles can only be taken free of charge on the cogwheel train's front carriage uphill from Marienplatz to Degerloch.

Folded bicycles and e-scooters are considered as objects in terms of the VVS conditions of carriage and can generally be carried free of charge at any time.
