Community experience sport

The Stuttgart movement program GemeinschaftsErlebnis Sport (GES) works in the forefront of sports clubs and as a close partner of schools as well as child and youth welfare. The focus of the sports-pedagogical offers is the social-integrative approach and a child- and youth-oriented leisure time organization.

GemeinschaftsErlebnis Sport: Children and young people are welcome here!

Creating sports experiences together

The project  GemeinschaftsErlebnis Sport (opens in a new tab) was initiated in 1995 by the state capital of Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Sports District and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Networking with other partners from different areas of society is necessary for the implementation of the program. The partners include, in particular, schools, sports clubs, municipal offices, child and youth welfare institutions, and district offices.

GemeinschaftsErlebnis Sport: Excellent!

The GES received numerous awards in 2014, including Germany's most highly endowed social prize, the Integration Award from the German Football Association and Mercedes-Benz, for its many years of work at the interface between sport and social issues. In 2015, the program was awarded the Wirkt seal by the independent analysis and consulting firm PHINEO. The questions addressed were under what conditions positive social effects of sport are manifested and what distinguishes successful social sports projects.

Interface of sport, school and social work

The offer of GemeinschaftsErlebnis Sport is free of charge, open and oriented towards the needs of children and young people. Special consideration is given to the different life situations, the different school types, and the different cultural and social backgrounds of the participants. The offerings create an ideal learning environment for the acquisition of social skills, tolerance behavior, respect, social integration and teamwork. Self-assertion also plays a central role.

The GES has set itself the following priorities:

  • Networked and sustainable educational work at the interface of sports, school/daycare and social work.
  • Promotion of life and everyday skills of children and young people for better (social) integration - especially in disadvantaged life situations.
  • Promotion of tolerance, respect and sensitization for a culture of diversity.
  • Guidance towards socially competent behavior.
  • Violence prevention: prevention of and intervention in youth (group) violence.
  • Health prevention: Anchoring exercise and sports in the everyday lives of children and young people.
