Mineral water and medicinal springs

Millions of liters of mineral water bubble up from underground every day. After Budapest, Stuttgart has the largest mineral water deposit in Europe. This is also a surprise for many citizens when they hear about it for the first time.

Six mineral water springs (Berger Urquell, Berg Nordquelle, Berg Südquelle, Berg Westquelle, Berg Ostquelle and Berg Mittelquelle) are used in the Berg mineral spa (for your health).

Around 44 million liters of mineral water gush out of the springs every day - that's the equivalent of 500 liters per second. The medicinal and mineral springs are mainly located in the Bad Cannstatt and Berg districts. They are used for cures and medical purposes as well as for bathing. The three municipal mineral baths, the Leuze, the Mineralbad Berg and the SoleBad Cannstatt am Kurpark, are constantly supplied with fresh mineral water.

Today, mineral water, acidulous water and even thermal water come from 19 wells, thirteen of which are state-recognized healing springs. Around half of the precious water flows unused and unnoticed into the Neckar. In order to ensure the sustainable use of Stuttgart's mineral springs, there has been a designated mineral spring protection area since 2002. After all, Stuttgart's mineral water is a cultural heritage that is the envy of many other cities.

Use of the healing springs in Stuttgart

Slip into the healing waters after a stressful day and emerge feeling reborn - anyone who has visited one of Stuttgart's three  thermal spas (opens in a new tab) knows about the healing effects of Stuttgart's healing springs. Due to the high level of filling, the mineral water can flow directly from the spring into the swimming and bathing pools in its natural state.
