A re-registration is also possible after several years in which the vehicle has been out of service with a main inspection, provided that the vehicle title and registration document are still available. If there are no more vehicle documents, a full expert opinion is necessary for the re-registration. In these cases, the vehicle registration document must be obtained first.

• Identity card or passport for private individuals (please note that registration is not possible without prior registration of residence at the Citizens' Office)
• Legal entities or self-employed traders require a business registration or an extract from the commercial register
• for freelancers (e.g. doctors, architects, sometimes also lawyers) a letterhead or business card is required
• Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• If the vehicle is financed/leased and the re-registration is with the previous registration number, the financing/leasing bank must send a fax to the registration office. This must confirm that the vehicle registration document is there and that there are no objections to the re-registration.
• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• If registration certificate Part I is no longer available, the vehicle owner must submit a written notification of loss
• Previous license plates
• Reference number/eVB number of your insurer
• SEPA mandate for the collection of vehicle tax by direct debit
• Valid HU inspection report
• Authorized representatives require a power of attorney for the registration and the SEPA mandate for the collection of vehicle tax, their own ID and the ID of the person granting the power of attorney.

• Operating license

Legal basis: Fee schedule of the scale of fees for road traffic measures

Vehicle registrations are refused if there are outstanding fee debts from previous registration processes. Only after the outstanding fees, including late fees, have been paid may a vehicle be registered. This rule applies to amounts owed in excess of 30 euros.

You must also not have a vehicle tax debt of five euros or more. When calculating the amount, late fees, interest and late fees are also taken into account.

If the owner appoints a third person to register the vehicle, he or she must declare in writing that he or she agrees that the registration authority may provide the authorized representative with information about the amount of outstanding fees.
