The Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewer Operations department plans, builds and operates Stuttgart's wastewater treatment plants and maintains the sewer system, stormwater tanks and wastewater pumping stations. Four sewage treatment plants purify the wastewater in the districts of Mühlhausen, Möhringen and Plieningen (in the Ostfildern area) and in Ditzingen. SES operates a central sewage sludge incineration plant in the main sewage treatment plant in Mühlhausen.
