The Building Department is responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of municipal properties. The aim is to construct and operate economical and cost-efficient buildings that are both sustainable and durable - both in terms of choice of materials and construction and in terms of their adaptability to changing requirements. The focus is on long-term economic and ecological goals, particularly in terms of climate protection. This is why the Building Department is systematically developing concepts for recyclability and CO₂ balancing. Buildings play a key role in shaping Stuttgart's cityscape. For this reason, the Building Construction Office attaches great importance to urban planning and architectural quality and represents the interests of the state capital as client and owner. Its core tasks include project management, project leadership and project control. In close cooperation with external architecture and engineering firms, construction projects are realized in compliance with clearly defined quality, cost and time targets. The introduction of the BIM methodology is progressing continuously - both within the Building Construction Office and in the city-wide organization BIM.Stuttgart, which is currently chaired by the Building Construction Office. With its construction expertise, the Building Construction Office advises the city administration comprehensively on construction planning issues, coordinates the selection of suitable planning teams, organizes competitions and expert opinions and handles all construction contracts centrally. Customer orientation, adherence to cost and time schedules and ensuring high quality standards are among the office's key strengths.
