The Stuttgart City Archive sees itself as the memory of the city society and is the competence center for city history. It preserves authentic evidence of the city's history, safeguards the rights of the city and its citizens, ensures transparent administration and facilitates the search for historical traces. This municipal cultural heritage includes files, official records, photos, maps, films, paintings and graphics of municipal and private origin. Around 20 employees work in the city archive on the creation, indexing and preservation of the archive holdings, in user services and on researching and communicating the city's history. The services of the city archive include the online provision of finding aids and on-site research support. In the area of research and communication, it offers a wide range of services, from digital city encyclopaedias to lectures and conferences to archive education.
