The town museum documents stages of Bad Cannstatt's local history. It was established at the end of 1988 in the renovated outbuilding of the "Klösterle" from the 15th century.

The Klösterle is a half-timbered building dating back to 1463, making it the oldest residential building in today's Stuttgart. It once served as a residence for the Beguines, a convent-like community of women.

The history of the town of Cannstatt, which was united with Stuttgart in 1905, can be seen here:
* Prehistoric man in Cannstatt?
* The Romans in Cannstatt
* 1330 - Cannstatt becomes a town
* Cannstatt bathing life in the 19th century
* Cannstatt personalities: Wilhelm Bernhard Molique, Ferdinand Freiligrath, Hermann Hesse, Thaddäus Troll.

The city museum is located in the center of Bad Cannstatt and is easy to reach by public transport (S-Bahn stop: Bad Cannstatt; U-Bahn stop: Bad Cannstatt Wilhelmsplatz).
