The church has been located on Königstraße since its inauguration in 1811. At that time, it was the first Catholic church in Stuttgart after the Reformation. King Frederick I of Württemberg had made the property available to the Catholics; shortly before, the practice of the Catholic faith had been placed under royal protection. The Catholic church was built from the stones of the Protestant court church at Solitude Palace, which had been demolished there.
During the Second World War, the church of St. Eberhard was almost completely destroyed, followed by reconstruction and, over the years, several alterations that finally gave the church its present appearance. In 1978, the church was elevated to the status of cathedral church of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart. It is the most visited church in the diocese and is appreciated, among other things, for its church music and open atmosphere.
The neighboring "House of the Catholic Church" is also worth a visit. Not only the interior architecture of the annex is worth seeing, but also the café invites you to linger.
