River experience on the Neckar

Stuttgart is the big city between forest and vineyards - and a city on the river. For people, the Neckar is a local recreation area and a popular starting point for excursions on and along the river.

As a lifeline, the Neckar combines culture, nature and history. It has its source in the Black Forest near Villingen-Schwenningen. From there, it meanders 367 kilometers through Baden-Württemberg, past the state capital Stuttgart to Mannheim, where it flows into the Rhine. Numerous sights and leisure activities are lined up along the Neckar.

One of the highlights in Stuttgart is the  traditional Fischerstechen (opens in a new tab), which is organized every two years by the "Kübelesmarkt Bad Cannstatt" fool's guild. For 300 years, the fishermen have been fighting for fame, honor and dry feet on their barges. Those who want to experience the Neckar from above have the opportunity to do so on the Bad Cannstatt wine trail. The trail leads to the "Muckensturm" viewing platform and offers a picturesque view of the Neckar loop and the vineyards.

The Neckar connects people

You can also relax and party with a view of the water - for example on the  city beach (opens in a new tab) in Bad Cannstatt in fine weather or on the trendy club boat  "Fridas Pier" (opens in a new tab) in Stuttgart-Ost. If you prefer a more tranquil experience, you can enjoy the surrounding vineyards and wooded hillsides on a boat tour with the  Neckar-Käpt'n (opens in a new tab). And the  theater ship anchored in Bad Cannstatt not only offers theater and cabaret - couples can also say "I do" here.

The river is close to the hearts of the people of Stuttgart. Among other things, the city of Stuttgart is investing large sums in the long term in new moorings in the Lindenschulviertel and on the Rosensteinufer. The aim is to keep passenger shipping on the Neckar sustainable and attractive. There is a wide range of offers relating to Neckar tourism, further suggestions can be found on the  Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH website (opens in a new tab).
