Notifiable diseases in humans

Notifiable diseases are infectious diseases that must be reported to the public health department by physicians and laboratories for prevention and control in humans according to sections 6 to 9 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG):

  • Botulism
  • Cholera
  • diphtheria
  • human spongiform encephalopathy (= Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, BSE)
  • acute viral hepatitis
  • enteropathic hemolytic uremic syndrome (EHEC)
  • virus-induced hemorrhagic fever
  • measles
  • whooping cough
  • meningococcal meningitis or meningococcal sepsis
  • Anthrax
  • Poliomyelitis
  • Plague
  • Rabies
  • typhoid or paratyphoid fever
  • Epidemics (at least 2 cases) of gastroenteritis or microbial food poisoning
  • Injury or contact with animal suspected of being rabid
  • Epidemic due to unknown pathogen, if serious danger to general public
  • tuberculosis patients refusing treatment
  • Increased incidence of nosocomial infections (not named)
  • Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)
