What is day care for children?
Child day care is an important component of childcare alongside day care facilities. Both forms of childcare have the legal mandate to educate, raise and care for children (§ 22 Para. 3 SGB VIII).
Childcare is provided in the home of a childminder, in rented rooms or in the parents’ home. Childminders can look after up to five children at the same time. It is also possible for at least two childminders to join forces to form what is known as a large-scale daycare facility, which can care for up to nine children at the same time.
