Equal rights, equal opportunities?
The basic rights of all citizens are enshrined in the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, including the right to equal rights and protection against discrimination (Article 3 (opens in a new tab)). However, people are discriminated against every day on the basis of gender, gender identity, age, religion, sexual orientation, cultural affiliation, disability or social background. However, unequal opportunities also arise for people who, for example, combine work and children or care for relatives.
The Equal Opportunities Department of the City of Stuttgart has the legal mandate to identify these disadvantages and counteract them with appropriate measures. To this end, it is necessary to analyze existing inequalities from this multiple perspective and to develop proposals for improvement and solutions for the respective structural framework conditions or for individual cases. The department implements this task in close cooperation with many network partners from specialist departments and organizations within and outside the city administration.
Topics and target groups
Every disadvantage is as individual as the person experiencing it. The advisory services and range of activities offered by the Equal Opportunities Department cover all forms of discrimination and unequal opportunities. The fields of action and focal points of work can nevertheless be assigned to topics or target groups: women, men, families, LGBTTIQ, domestic violence.
Selection of networks and projects
