What is day care for children?
Child day care is the technical term for the professional care of children by childminders.
The care of the children takes place
- in the household of a childminder,
- in rented rooms or
- in the parents' home.
This creates a family-like and safe care setting for your child. Childminders can look after up to five children at the same time. If two or more childminders join together to form a large daycare facility, they can look after up to ten children at the same time.

Are you interested in a family-like and comprehensive childcare service for your child? The Caritas Association's specialist childcare advice service (opens in a new tab) is happy to advise and support interested parents in their search for a childminder. Information events are held regularly to provide information about the general conditions of child day care and to answer any questions.
You can also find free places with childminders on the Caritas Association's childminder exchange (opens in a new tab) portal. Here you can contact the childminders and request a place.
You can also use the Kitafinder (opens in a new tab) with a parent account for your child to request a place at a large daycare facility.
