Child day care in Stuttgart

Child day care is a family-oriented form of childcare in which children aged 0 to 3 years are mainly looked after by qualified childminders in their own premises, in rented rooms or in the parents' home.

Creative learning: Painting with finger paints is a highlight for the little ones.

The overall responsibility for fulfilling the tasks in child day care lies with the public youth welfare organization.

The tasks of child day care in Stuttgart are carried out by the Child Day Care Department of the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Stuttgart. In addition, the  Caritasverband für Stuttgart e. V. (opens in a new tab) has been commissioned with the tasks of qualification, advice, support and placement in child day care, in the implementation of which the Youth Welfare Office is actively involved.

The  Caritas Association's child day care advisory service (opens in a new tab) provides advice and information on the following topics, among others

  • Searching for a suitable childminder
  • Qualification as a childminder
  • Childcare contract under private law
  • Insurance cover
  • Children with special care needs
  • Pedagogical topics and questions

The child day care team of the youth welfare office provides advice and information on the following topics:

  • Financial support for a childcare place in child day care
  • Reimbursement of social security contributions
  • Suitability and permission for child day care (in accordance with § 43 SGB VIII), in short care permit
  • Voluntary benefits from the city (e.g. rent subsidy for large day care centers)
