Labor market for refugees

Stuttgart is a cosmopolitan city where people from many different nations live. Many refugees have found a new home here. The Jobcenter Stuttgart supports you so that you too can find your feet in your new home, learn the language and take up training or work.

The Jobcenter Stuttgart helps refugees find long-term employment in a profession that also matches their interests and skills.

You immigrated to Germany in 2022 or later and have been recognized as a refugee, person entitled to asylum or subsidiary protection? Would you like to apply for  cash benefits from the Jobcenter and are looking for a job or would like to start training? Then the  Migration and Participation Department (MuT) of the Jobcenter Stuttgart is the right place for you to go.

Here you will receive information and support on various topics such as

  • School and studies
  • Training and career
  • Qualification and language support
  • Housing and living in Stuttgart
  • Family and childcare
  • Family and childcare
  • Debts

Many other questions relating to your current life situation will also be answered. Call or write an e-mail to arrange a personal meeting. You are welcome to bring a person you trust with you. If you do not yet speak German well, an interpreter can also take part in the meeting.

Important:

  • Did you immigrate to Germany as a refugee before 2022 and would like to apply for benefits from the Jobcenter? Then you can contact the  Jobcenter branch office (opens in a new tab) in your place of residence or the relevant specialist office directly.

  • Are you not officially recognized as a refugee, a person entitled to asylum or a person entitled to subsidiary protection and need help? Then the Jobcenter is not the right contact for you. Please contact the  Social Housing Assistance and Prevention Department of the Office for Social Affairs and Participation.

New home: The Jobcenter Stuttgart supports refugees in finding permanent employment in a profession that suits them. Refugee Ramo reports on his personal experience of arriving and the on-site careers advice.

Support from the Job Center

Speak openly about your situation. All discussions will be treated confidentially:

  • First contact: At your first appointment at the Jobcenter, you will discuss your current life situation with your personal contact in the MuT department. They will plan the next steps together with you, depending on your education and work experience and the profession you have learned or would like to learn. It goes without saying that the personal contacts will take into account the linguistic and cultural challenges associated with a new start in Stuttgart.
  • Financial support: During your schooling, vocational training and job search, the Jobcenter will support you with the citizen's allowance. This cash benefit secures your livelihood and is transferred to your account every month. You can find out what the citizen's allowance includes in the  cash benefits section.
  • Placement in work and training: It is important to the Jobcenter that you find long-term employment and work in a profession that suits you. For this reason, the personal contacts in the MuT department will take your wishes and skills into account wherever possible when placing you in work or training. They will also listen to you if you have any difficulties. Are there circumstances or problems (e.g. lack of childcare, health problems, debts or problems with family members) that make it difficult for you to start training or work?
