Environmental education for schools and daycare centers

Under the guidance of experts from the Office for Environmental Protection, Stuttgart school classes (grades 1-6) can experience and learn about nature. The two-hour educational offers are free of charge.

The free program is aimed at all elementary school. It is a 2-3 hour morning as part of the vacation care program. The following topics are available

• Excursion to various habitats such as forests, meadows or bodies of water
• Discovering nature at the school site, e.g. in the school garden
• Building nesting aids (wild bees or birds)
• Other topics on request

The municipal school garden program offers free consultation services for school gardens and nature-oriented design of school grounds. Daycare centers can also take advantage of the advice. This is an advisory service; structural measures can neither be carried out nor approved.

The program includes the following services

• Personal advice
• Provision of information material
• Training and further education courses for teachers and educational staff (see section on further training)
• Implementation of smaller projects involving pupils (building nesting aids, creating raised beds or compost heaps, etc.)
• Support with the design of a school garden or its reactivation
• Support with networking with stakeholders and the search for funding opportunities

Experiencing nature in the city

Schoolyards and school environments offer numerous starting points and access points for nature education activities with pupils. In this training course, we will explore what opportunities there are in urban spaces to experience nature with all the senses. We will present various methods, games and activities that can be easily implemented in practice on the topics of the environment, nature, animals, plants and sustainability.

School garden: a place to learn and experience nature

Do you already have a school garden at your all-day elementary school or would you like to set one up? In this event, we will show you how you can create a natural learning and experience space and integrate it into everyday school life.

Regardless of whether the school is located in the city center or close to nature on the outskirts, there is diversity to be discovered everywhere. The all-day nature times project can be individually integrated into the all-day lessons (as an AG, TA subject offer, TU subject lesson or similar). On several dates, the pupils learn about nature, animals, plants and ways of protecting the environment in the school playground and school environment.

The aim is to give refugee and immigrant children and young people access to natural spaces. Under the title "Preparatory classes discover Stuttgart's nature ", we are carrying out the project in schools together with other ESD stakeholders. Experiencing nature, culture and language together brings people together. The Stuttgart Education Partnership department is in charge of this project.

Arranging free theater performances for Stuttgart elementary school and daycare centers. The focus of the plays is on waste and environmental protection. The theater educators come directly to the school or institution. Please understand that due to high demand, not all interested parties can be considered.

We are climate heroes
Who walks - moves!

This is about climate protection and mobility education for primary school children in years 3 and 4. In the project, the children can experience for themselves how they can become real climate heroes on their way to school on foot. Details can be found on  the Mobility Education page.

The sensory trail is suitable for nurseries and elementary school and is used to train perception with the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands and feet.

• Barefoot trail: 10 wooden boxes with various natural materials (dimensions of the boxes 65 x 45 cm)
• Feeling box, smell boxes, kaleidoscopes, sound memory and much more.
• Loan period: 1 to 2 weeks, free of charge
