Apply for a residence permit for family reunification

Your family member who is already living in Germany has a

• Settlement permit
• Permit for permanent residence EU
• Residence permit
• EU Blue Card
• ICT card
• Mobile ICT Card or
• is staying in the federal territory authorized as a mobile researcher

For spousal reunification: minimum age of both spouses 18 years

In case of subsequent immigration of children between 16 and 18 years additionally:

• Entry in the family with the parents or
• Mastery of the German language or positive integration prognosis or
• Existence of a case of hardship

Basic knowledge of German A 1 of the person joining the family

If you are applying for a residence permit for the first time:

Before entering Germany, you must applyfor a national visain your home country. The representation of the Federal Republic of Germany will involve the relevant immigration authority. After entering Germany, you must apply for a residence permit in writing to the foreigners authority in the appropriate letter team before your visa expires. • Passport
•  Digital photograph
• Valid entry visa for family reunification
• Completed application for a residence permit
• Proof that your livelihood is secured
• Proof of health insurance
• Proof of accommodation and tenancy agreement
• Completed certificate of employment and earnings form of the person you are moving in with
• Proof of family affiliation (e.g. birth and marriage certificates, proof of a registered civil partnership)
• Completed form for the declaration of cohabitation or civil partnership
• In the case of spousal reunification, additional proof of the minimum age of both spouses
• Proof of your basic knowledge of German (level A1)

If children between the ages of 16 and 18 are joining you:

• Proof of entry as part of a family with the parents or
• Proof of proficiency in the German language or a positive integration prognosis or
• Proof of a special case of hardship
  
  

NOTE: In addition to the points listed above, further requirements may need to be met. We can only process your application if your documents are complete.

You must apply before your visa or residence permit expires.

Due to the large number of applications for a residence permit, longer processing times must be expected. We kindly ask you to refrain from making interim inquiries.
