Water

Water is one of our most precious commodities and its careful handling is vital. The protection and purification of groundwater, water bodies and drinking water is a valuable asset - and the goal of a responsible environmental policy.

The Max Eyth Lake was artificially created in 1935 in the course of the canalization of the Neckar. Today it is a popular recreational destination for the people of Stuttgart.

Stuttgart is richly endowed with water, especially mineral water. Stuttgart has the second largest mineral and healing water deposit in Europe. This enables citizens to enjoy healthy and relaxing bathing. In addition, there are several lakes and streams. These are popular sights and local recreation areas.

However, underground drinking water deposits are rare and have long been insufficient to supply Stuttgart's citizens. Today, Stuttgart's drinking water is supplied via kilometer-long long-distance pipelines. It forms the basis of existence for private households and industry and, as a foodstuff, is subject to particularly strict monitoring. For this reason, water in the Stuttgart area, but especially in the long-distance area, is a valuable commodity that must be protected.
