Former Olgäle offers refugees a home for just under two months

In its meeting on Thursday, June 5, the municipal council unanimously passed the basic resolution for the further development of the Olgahospital site in Stuttgart-West. At the beginning of the debate, Lord Mayor Fritz Kuhn announced that the main building of the recently vacated children’s hospital will temporarily house around 160 refugees assigned to the state capital by the state reception center for refugees in June and July.

Kuhn made it clear that this would not cause any delays in the work on the Olgahospital site. He also emphasized that the hospital building would offer the incoming refugees much better housing options than would be possible if they were accommodated in gymnasiums. The mayor went on to say that the current bottleneck in the provision of refugee accommodation would be over by August, as further accommodation created by the city would then be available.

The temporary accommodation in the Olgäle is necessary because a designated accommodation is not available in time.
