The aim of the fine dust alarm is to reduce the expected pollution with fine dust and nitrogen dioxides in weather conditions with very low exchange capacity in Stuttgart. Currently, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts a strongly limited exchange capacity of the atmosphere until at least Monday. This means that the criteria for triggering the fine dust alarm are fulfilled.

For the fine dust alarm to be lifted, the German Weather Service(DWD) mustforecast a sustained and significant improvement in the exchange capacity; a one-day interruption in the severe restriction of the exchange capacity is not sufficient in this respect.

Use bus and train, do without comfort fireplaces

The state capital Stuttgart, together with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Regional Council of Stuttgart, is therefore appealing to the population of Stuttgart and the metropolitan region to avoid using cars in Stuttgart as much as possible and to refrain from operating so-called comfort fireplaces, which only serve as an additional source of heat. Basically excluded are dwellings, which are heated exclusively with such single-room fireplaces.

During the alert, motorists are advised to switch as far as possible to environmentally compatible means of transport, i.e. train, streetcar, bus or bicycle, to walk, to use electric vehicles or to form car pools.
