“Running under floodlight” starts with time changeover

The “Running under floodlights” campaign will start its third season on October 25. Until April 30, 2021, runners can once again train free of charge under floodlights at four Stuttgart sports facilities.

In addition to the use of their facilities, the participating clubs offer free training sessions. To take part in “Running under floodlights”, registration is required at  www.stuttgart-bewegt-sich.de (opens in a new tab).

Daniela Klein, Head of the Office for Sport and Exercise, explains: “The exercise program ‘Running under floodlights’ offers Stuttgart residents the opportunity to enjoy running together in the evening hours, even during the darker months of the year. The guided training in a group also promotes motivation.

Not only beginners benefit from the training sessions. Advanced runners can also improve their performance with coordination and sprint training. Under the guidance of qualified trainers, running modes such as the build-up or pyramid run can be tried out. These are special forms of interval running. High-intensity fast running and relaxed trotting intervals alternate according to certain patterns. Using these methods, the athletes learn how to make their training even more effective. When running freely on the synthetic track, participants benefit from the special atmosphere and the sense of community. The clubs also make their changing rooms available to the runners.

Klein continues: “Running under floodlights has already been a great success in the past two years. The exercise program was very well received and more athletes took part than we had hoped. It is also particularly pleasing that some participants have joined the clubs they trained with during the winter.”

Running under floodlights will be expanded with a fourth location in the 2020/21 season. A new addition is the running track at the Waldau district sports facility at Georgiiweg 10a. Training can take place there on Mondays from 5.15 to 6.45 pm. The training session of the Stuttgart Athletics Club takes place at the same time. The running track at MTV Stuttgart, Am Krähenwald 190a, is available for free running on Wednesdays from 6.30 to 9.30 pm. The training session takes place on Wednesdays between 7 and 7.50 pm. The running track at TB Bad Cannstatt, Emil-Kiemlen-Weg 51, can be used for training on Tuesdays between 7 and 8.30 pm. The training session
takes place at the same time. The running track at LAC Degerloch, Bopseräcker 4-5, is available for free training on Tuesdays from 6 to 7.30 pm. The training session starts at 6.30 pm. There is no training during the vacations or when there is snow or ice.
