About Pop 2021 - Third Pop Culture Conference in Stuttgart

The Stuttgart Region Pop Office is hosting the About Pop conference for the third time on Saturday, October 30. Larger, more diverse and with renowned international guests, this year the Wizemann-Areal will host daytime and evening programs.

Walter Ercolino from the Stuttgart Region Pop Office and First Mayor Dr. Fabian Mayer welcome the guests. Marc Gegenfurtner, Head of the Department of Culture, Katja Lucker, Chairwoman of Musicboard Berlin, Tina Sikorski, Managing Director of Initiative Musik, and State Secretary, art historian and journalist Petra Olschowski will take part in the panel “The Value of Music - How Can Sustainable Pop Promotion Succeed?”.

About Pop 2021 is divided into two conference blocks for the first time. During the day, various socio-political and cultural-political as well as economic aspects of pop culture such as empowerment, sustainability, music promotion, games, fashion or music economy will be addressed. From 6 p.m. on, the conference turns into the “About Night”, where topics of night and club culture will be in focus and discussed with international guests. The conference takes place “Im Wizemann” and partly in hybrid form. It is a platform and exchange area for actors, artists, enthusiasts and fans of pop culture and pop music to discuss and renegotiate the issues of our time.

At the opening of “About Night” Matthias Pfeiffer, acting head of the city’s economic development department, Theresa Kern from IG Clubkultur and Club Kollektiv, Armen Shala from Club Schräglage and Paula Theiss from Zena Kollektiv will discuss the value of club life. In his keynote, Nils Runge will talk about his first months as night manager of the city and region of Stuttgart, about concrete projects from the past and about visions for the future.

In addition to exciting lectures, the Pop Bureau Stuttgart Region offers a diverse musical program, curated among others by the KOMMA Cultural Center Esslingen. International, national and local artists such as Ichiko Aoba, Salomea, John Moods, ZweiLaster, Luis Ake, Edward Hunt and Hanniou will be on stage.
