Former city councillor Ergun Can turns 65

Former city councillor Ergun Can turns 65 on Sunday, September 10. Can was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in Stuttgart City Council from 2004 to 2014 and worked on the Committee for Economic Affairs and Housing, the Sports Committee and the International Committee, among others.

He was previously a member of the Degerloch district council and was chairman of the local SPD until 2012. He was also a member of the Netzwerk Türkeistämmiger Mandatsträgerinnen und Mandatsträger, and was its national chairman from 2007 to 2014. He has been a member of the board of trustees of the German-Turkish Forum since 2008. One of Can’s concerns was to turn the coexistence of Germans and immigrants into togetherness.

Ergun Can came to Schramberg in the Black Forest from Istanbul with his family in 1964. After completing an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic, he obtained a technical college entrance qualification via the second educational pathway and studied mechanical engineering in Giessen and Constance, graduating with a degree in engineering. Can worked as a sales engineer in various companies. He was Chairman of the Works Council at Novotechnik in Ostfildern and has been Chairman of the Group Works Council at the Siedle Group in Furtwangen since 2017.

Ergun Can is Chairman of the “Emin Eller” (translated: In safe hands) support association, which now includes three self-managed residential care communities. Can has been involved with the Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO), the Friends of Nature, IG Metall and sports clubs, among others. He is also a founding member of the “Falken-Hexen” in Schramberg. Ergun Can is married, has a daughter and two foster children.
