Road Traffic Division Manager Susanne Scherz said, “The situation is extremely stressful for everyone. We know about the stress of the people we would like to serve. Unfortunately, our employees repeatedly come up against technical limits that make their work noticeably more difficult. We are working flat out with the software provider to solve the problems and streamline the processing of transactions. Despite all the service restrictions, we ask customers to treat our employees with respect in order to ensure the best possible operational flow.”
Currently, between approximately 100 and 230 registrations can be processed daily at the counters for private customers - significantly fewer than before the changeover. The new software continues to entail unfamiliar, but also more time-consuming work processes for employees. Real-life operation with its diverse case constellations shows that the software and the processes it depicts need to be improved in certain areas. This was not previously apparent in test operation.
Currently, waiting tags are issued for the registration office in various time slots. The number of waiting tags depends on the number of employees on the day in question. Customers should check with www.stuttgart.de/organigramm/verwaltungseinheit/kfz-zulassungsstelle.php before visiting the vehicle registration office, as there may be closing days for concerted backlog processing. If there are large crowds, access restrictions must be expected on site. Waiting customers will be given the best possible advice by service staff so that they do not wait unnecessarily in line. The city is also working on the introduction of a digital appointment system, which should be available in September.
The software conversion had become necessary due to the cancellation of the previous procedure. As part of the nationwide digitization, another software adjustment is due in the coming months.
New location for motor vehicle registration and driver’s license office approved
Irrespective of the current restrictions, the City of Stuttgart is working on a comprehensive concept to stabilize the operation of the registration and driver’s license office and make it more customer-friendly. A key component of this concept is a modern and customer-friendly building.
The administrative committee recently decided to rent an office building on Löwentorbogen for the registration and driving license office. From 2025, the services will be offered in the Pragstrasse district and the current location in Feuerbach will be abandoned.
At the new location, customer flows can be better managed and the needs of customers and employees can be better met.
The new location is only about two kilometers away from the current location in Krailenshaldenstraße. Access by car or bike is comparable. The Löwentor and Züricher Straße tram stops are close by and the Nordbahnhof S-Bahn station is also within easy walking distance.
