Absentee ballot

Would you like to cast your vote by postal ballot at the next election? Here you will find general information on when you can apply for postal voting documents in Stuttgart. Or how you can vote on the spot when you apply.

You can take part in the next Bundestag election
by postal vote.

This means:

You do not go to the polling station on the day of the election.

Instead, you cast your vote earlier.
To do this, you send the ballot papers by post.

This is possible until September 23, 2021.
You must complete the application in full.
You will need:

  • the number of your electoral district
  • Your voter number.

Both can be found on your election notification.

You must then complete the application in full.
And you must sign the application in person.

Or you can also submit your postal vote application by e-mail.

Please provide the following information:

  • Your first name and surname
  • Address of your main residence in Stuttgart
  • Your date of birth

You must send your application to briefwahlstuttgartde by September 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.

Pick up absentee ballot documents yourself or cast your vote at the election office

Until September 23, 2021 at 11 a.m.
Apply for postal voting documents online.

For this you need:

  • the number of your electoral district
  • Your voter number.

Due to the Corona pandemic, you must call the district office in advance.

Ask: When you can go there.


Can ’t collect your voting documents yourself?

  • Then you can authorize another person to do so.
  • This person needs written authorization from you.
  • The authorization form is on the back of the election notification.
  • You must complete and sign the power of attorney.

We will then check your application.
Are you eligible to vote and are you on the electoral roll?
Then we will send you the documents for the postal vote.
However, we must first have the ballot papers.
This will be the case from August 16.

Application for Germans abroad

Some Germans live abroad.
They are no longer registered in Germany.
In this case, they are not automatically listed in the electoral roll.

They must first submit an application.
Then they are entered in the electoral register.
They must submit the application to the relevant municipality.

The application must be received by the municipality by September 5, 2021 at the latest.
