History
Stammheim's history goes back a long way: Stone Age people, Celts, Romans, Alamanni, Merovingians, Franks and others settled here long ago. Stammheim was first mentioned in a document in the Middle Ages in 1192. The three-winged Schickhardt Castle with its stair tower and St. John's Church date from the 16th century. Like many other buildings, they are listed monuments. The still unchanged Solitudeallee in Stammheim - the basis of our national survey - is also a listed building.
The then independent community of Stammheim, which belonged to the "Oberamt Ludwigsburg", was incorporated into Stuttgart on April 1, 1942.
Today
In the past, agriculture was the main source of income for the population, but today Stammheim is a popular place to live for employees, especially in Stuttgart and the Ludwigsburg district.
Stammheim is particularly attractive for young families due to the wide range of offers for children and young people. For example, the district has numerous playgrounds, a children's and youth center and a youth farm. The new Langenäcker-Wiesert development area will cause the district to grow even further.
More than 40 clubs and institutions with their offerings and events, as well as the direct connection to the city center via the U15 light rail line, make the district very interesting for all residents.
