Dance

Dance belongs to Stuttgart like the pas de deux to ballet. This is ensured above all by the world-famous company of the Stuttgart Ballet, the renowned ensemble of Gauthier Dance, the city’s international dance festivals and an expressive independent scene.

Dance stories with tradition

As a performing art form, dance is close to theater, combining dynamism with narrative aesthetics and focusing on physical expression. Before humans learn language, they express themselves through movement - a deeply felt, immediate telling of their own story. Dance is able to convey this story(s) in an emotional and artistically impressive way.

Stuttgart has a long tradition of dance, dating back to the 17th century, and has produced one of the world’s best ballet companies. The Stuttgart Ballet is world-renowned in the field of classical dance and performs in the major international ballet houses. With Gauthier Dance, there is another permanent ensemble with a high reputation in the Theaterhaus. In addition, a free scene has established itself, which focuses primarily on modern, contemporary dance as well as crossover projects between dance, theater, performance and music.
