The Office for Environmental Protection and the School Administration Office support schools in reducing their energy and water consumption with the LESS project. The aim of the project is to anchor the topics of energy saving, sustainability, resource and climate protection in schools. Pupils should discover energy-saving potential themselves and develop measures to reduce the consumption of energy and water in schools.
The LESS project aims to ensure that the everyday behavior practiced in schools is also used in the pupils’ private environment. At the same time, it aims to raise awareness of the fact that the raw materials and energy sources available on earth are finite. In this way, LESS makes an important contribution to environmental and climate protection both inside and outside schools.
At the LESS project’s annual event in October 2024, 30 successfully participating schools received certificates as well as bonuses and special prizes for special projects totaling over 26,000 euros.

You can join LESS at any time
As an incentive, the schools receive a share of the energy costs saved, which they can dispose of freely. In addition, all schools are rewarded via a points system for their educational activities in raising awareness of ways to save energy.
Other schools can join the project at any time. To do so, Stuttgart schools can contact the Office for Environmental Protection. The contact person is Sandra Langer or lessstuttgartde
