Seasonal license plates are intended for vehicles that you only use at certain times of the year, such as motorcycles, convertibles or motorhomes. You can save yourself the frequent registration and deregistration.
When registering the vehicle in your name, you specify once the operating period during which you want to use the vehicle. This can be between two and eleven months per year. Outside the operating period, you may not drive the vehicle on public roads and must park it away from public roads and places on private property, such as in a garage. Vehicles with seasonal license plates are generally subject to all regulations of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance. Thus, these vehicles are subject to compulsory registration and license plates, (year-round) insurance and taxes.
Note: The operating period is indicated on the right-hand side of the license plate as a fractional number. 05/11″, for example, means that you may use the vehicle from May to November. Insurance coverage and the obligation to pay contributions are suspended during the period outside the operating period.
Note: A seasonal license plate can be registered at any time, thus also outside the seasonal period. However, the vehicle may only be driven on public roads from the 01st of the month from the beginning of the seasonal period.
