Trees

Stuttgart has over 150,000 trees on public properties and many thousands of trees in private areas. This green diversity ensures an excellent quality of life in the Stuttgart metropolitan area. An important task of the Garden, Cemetery and Forestry Department is to protect and preserve this stock.

Trees in the city and especially street trees are important components of our habitat. In summer, they provide a shady, cool place and beautify the streetscape. With their leaf mass, they also produce oxygen and bind fine dust. They have positive effects on the microclimate, act as dust filters and increase people’s physical and psychological well-being.

What the city does

Urban trees, unfortunately, grow in a poor environment for them. They are highly endangered in their environment, damage is already almost the normal state. Therefore, the declared goal of the city is to protect the city trees from damage as much as possible and to repair damage that has already occurred.
