Midwives in Stuttgart

Pregnancy, birth and postpartum are formative events in the lives of women, children and the whole family. Care by a midwife is necessary and desirable for this time. Currently, too few midwives work freelance in Stuttgart. The health department therefore offers support.

Every woman is entitled to the support of a midwife. To close the current supply gap in Stuttgart, there is support for women seeking midwives and freelance midwives. (Symbol image)

Find a midwife in Stuttgart

If you are unable to find a midwife for your pregnancy, birth or postpartum care on your own initiative, we will be happy to support you and forward your request to freelance midwives in the Stuttgart Health Department network. You can find the  contact form for the midwife coordination office (opens in a new tab) here.

Please note that only inquiries from Stuttgart and the following areas can be processed: Gerlingen, Ditzingen, Korntal-Münchingen, Kornwestheim, Fellbach, Ostfildern and Leinfelden-Echterdingen.

If you still cannot find a midwife in your area, keep looking and contact the midwives in your area again after the birth if necessary. Sometimes free capacities arise spontaneously. The following pages may help you in your search: the  midwife list of the GKV Spitzenverband (opens in a new tab) and the  midwife search Baden-Württemberg (opens in a new tab).

Offers for acute midwife care

Your child has already been born and you haven’t found a midwife yet? Freelance midwives in Stuttgart, in cooperation with the health department of the state capital Stuttgart, offer acute midwifery care on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the year:

  • Midwifery acute care offers medically necessary support in the postpartum period on a daily basis by various freelance midwives.
  • Postnatal care is provided on an outreach basis and can take place at the earliest after the U2 examination and the metabolic test.
  • The costs are covered by the health insurance companies.

You should register with the responsible midwife by 6 p.m. on the evening before the desired day of the visit at the latest. You can find out which midwife is responsible for you from the schedule of freelance midwives, which you can obtain together with the information letter for families either from the maternity clinic or download from this page.

A treatment contract between you and the midwife is required. You can only obtain this from the Midwife Coordination Office by e-mail at  hebammenversorgung-stuttgartstuttgartde or directly from your midwife.
