The registry office performs mandatory state duties. Among other things, it registers births and deaths in the registry office district, accepts applications for marriage from couples living in the city center and performs marriages.
You can reserve your desired date and wedding location for your wedding ceremony online up to 18 months in advance: traukalender.stuttgart.de (opens in a new tab).

On 01.01.2009 the civil status law (PStG) was changed in essential parts. Birth, marriage, civil partnership and death registers are now kept at the registry office.
The family registers created until 31.12.2008 are continued with regard to the spouses (not with regard to the children) as marriage registers at the marriage registry offices.
The civil status registers are only continued by the registry office within the legally prescribed continuation period of
- 80 years for marriage registers / civil partnership registers
- 110 years for birth registers
- 30 years for death registers
kept up to date. From this, the registry office issues certificates and information service.stuttgart.de/ (opens in a new tab). Older civil status records can be viewed at the Stuttgart City Archives (opens in a new tab).
