State capital Stuttgart

Urban planning

Urban design

A city offers space for design. For this reason, public space in Stuttgart is also constantly being further developed in terms of traffic concerns, design aspects and communicative aspects. This applies, for example, to StadtLicht planning and street economies.

Light as a design element: In the state capital, in addition to the illumination of streets, paths and squares, typical city buildings are also illuminated for safety reasons.

Urban design primarily concerns the development of streets and squares in public spaces. The following factors must be considered and coordinated:

  • Traffic concerns, such as paths for pedestrians and cyclists or parking facilities for cars.
  • Design aspects, such as the surrounding buildings and a harmonious overall appearance.
  • Social and communicative aspects, such as play areas and places for people to stay.
